A moderate amount of mobility is required as there is a short climb up a ladder to access the wharf on the island and a 30cm step in and out of the vessel.
If you are unsure please feel free to get in touch before booking.
When walking around the island it is on sometimes uneven grassy, rocky and muddy terrain. You will need outdoor walking footwear.
Joining this event, accessing the island and walking around the island is at your own risk. Most walking pathways are marked and some are gravelled, but sometimes can still be slippery.
-Back up days are 12th and 13th October if the weather is not suitable for this event.
We will advise 36 hours prior if we believe the weather would make this event unsuitable to run. That would mean strong winds or no wind which would make it unsuitable for flying kites.
We will not cancel in the event of light rain or cold!
If YOU would like to cancel we require 36 hours notice from you to be eligible for a refund. Otherwise no refunds will be available.
If we do utilize the back up day and the new date does not suit you, we can refund your ticket price.
Min numbers may apply to run the trips.
We would appreciate if you choose natural materials to make your kite. It is advisable that fishing line is NOT used as kite string, as this type of 'string' can be an accidental cause of bird entanglement and death, when not disposed of properly or when accidently tangled in vegetation or if it is lost.
No kite? No problem! Kite Day ticket holders are welcome to attend a FREE kite decorating session at Port Chalmers Library. Kites (and artistic guidance) will be provided. Sessions led by local artist Jo St Baker run in the Rolfe Room, Port Chalmers Library, from 2-4pm on Wed 2, Thurs 3 and Fri 4 Oct. No booking required, but please have your ticket handy (on your phone is fine!)
If you'd like to help other families attend this magical event, look for our pay it forward option. Donations greatly appreciated.
