"The Married Quarters building is the last remaining building from the quarantine station that served the Otago community 1860-1920. Left to fall into disrepair, the building was saved and restored by the Quarantine Island/Kamau Taurua community. Hear about the dedication, resilience and vision of the building's restoration, and how it serves the community today. "
Go by ferry and receive and explosive commentary by the skipper, as you travel through the centre of Dunedin's extinct volcano.
Once at Quarantine Island there is alot to see- birds, boats, harbour hulks, historic buildings and much more.
There is a playground for the kids and bathroom facilities.
Take the family and picnic.
The tour is around 1 hour in duration and involves a little bit of walking, on sometimes uneven grassy, rocky and muddy terrain.
Free time afterwards to explore and enjoy the views and peace.
You can stay for a couple of hours, or a whole day.
Please write in your notes if you are departing from Portobello and the departure times will be around 15 minutes different to listed departure times.
Departing from Port Chalmers, Back Beach at 10:00am and 10:25am.
Returning again at 12:00pm and 12:30pm.

If youd like to stay for longer than 2 hours, please write this in your notes and a 3:30pm departure time can be arranged.
A moderate amount of mobility is required as there is a short climb up a ladder to access the wharf on the island and a 30 cm step in and out of the vessel.
