Step aboard for a scenic wildlife cruise on Otago Harbour and the Royal Albatross breeding colony, by boat.

This is where you’ll look for royal albatross, fur seals, seabirds and much more. If you’re lucky, you may also spot little blue penguins or New Zealand sea lions along the way. 

The cruise is approx 2 hours in duration.

After the cruise, enjoy a relaxing crossing of Otago Harbour to the Otago Peninsula, where you’ll meet your scenic coach transport to Larnach Castle.

At Larnach Castle, you’ll have time to explore the castle on a self-guided tour and enjoy the beautiful surrounding gardens. There is also a café located in the ballroom where you can purchase refreshments at your own cost. 

You will have approx 2 hours here.

The coach takes you along the harbourside road while the driver gives a commentary so you can truly appreciate the views and understand the Dunedin culture.

Approx 1 hour stop

Your journey then continues into Dunedin City, with your driver pointing out some of the city’s highlights and special sights along the way. You’ll be dropped off in central Dunedin, giving you the opportunity to continue exploring, shopping or enjoying the city at your own pace.

Own transport to return to cruise ship terminal building at your own leisure.

Cruise ship busses depart from central Dunedin. the coach driver will show you where, before drop off.

Or you can utilize the public buses. All busses drop you off within a stones through of cruise ship terminal building.

Total timing:

10am departures from Port Chalmers by boat

Arrives at Larnach Castle at 12:30pm

Departs Larnach castle approx 2:30pm

Arrives Glenfalloch Gardens (for those who would like to visit) approx 2:45pm

Those continuing to City arrive City at approx 3:15pm

Driver returns to Glenfalloch to pick up Glenfalloch passengers approx 3:45pm

Glenfalloch passengers arrive Dunedin City approx 4:10pm

Times are listed as approx because if group numbers are quite small and everyone wants less time then driver can depart early.

(Approx also allows for any road works etc.)

(Please that at the beginning of the tour, guests will walk approximately 10 minutes along a flat, paved path to the Port Chalmers Yacht Club, to meet the boat for the first leg of your journey, where your wildlife cruise departs at 10:00am.)

Standard cancellation policy is 36 hours notice, however for cruise ship passengers we understand that it is out of your control if a ship cancels its visit into Port Chalmers on the day, sometimes due to weather.

Even though this is unlikely and only happens a few times a year, we would normally refund cruise ship passengers 80% of tickets and with hold 20%, for admin, staff and resources. 

Passengers however must contact us when they know about the cancellation, because if contact is not made with us advising they are travelling on the ship, within 24 hours of the ship cancelling its visit, the passengers will be marked as a no show.

We always endeavor to help you where we can, as we understand last minute ship cancellations can be distressful for passengers.
